SUMMER PERCUSSION WORKSHOPS

Featuring nationally known artists working with local educators, Sounds of Summer provides intensive, hands-on instruction to brass and woodwinds, student-leaders, percussion, and guard members from grades 7 through college age and covers fundamentals, basic and advanced techniques, sectional playing/spinning, ensemble performance, and leadership skills. Since the camp’s inception in 1985, more than 50,000 students have honed their skills at Sounds of Summer programs across the country.

 
The Sounds of Summer Camp will take place at the University of Nevada, Reno. There will be two full days of rehearsal and instruction followed by a performance at eNVision’s Artown Event held at the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows.

July 13-15, 2017

All camp participants will be performing exercises and etudes designed to increase their skill level. This camp should ultimately promote the enjoyment of, and overall dedication to, the future of percussion.

The cost for the camp will be $85 if registered before June 15th. After June 15th will be $110. No registrations will be accepted after July 6th. This cost will include:

  • Lunch Thursday and Friday
  • Music
  • Materials
  • Workshops/Classes/Clinics/Instruction

eNVision will provide their instruments on a reservation basis. Please coordinate with camp coordinator Aaron Hines to ensure there is enough equipment for all participants.

Schedule & Information

  • Thursday – 8:30am is the check-in/registration time. This is where you will get your equipment assigned as well. PLEASE DO NOT BE LATE! We will be meeting in CFA 14 (The University Band Room is located across the street from the Wolf Den and is next to the Virginia Street Gym).
  • We start rehearsing at 9am.
  • We will take a lunch break from 12-1pm and will provide you with food and drink.
  • We will rehearse until 5pm. PLEASE know that we will STOP rehearsing at 58 and will then need to return equipment and clean the areas we were in. This will take about 30 minutes.
  • Friday – 
  • 8:30am is the check-in/registration time. This is where you will get your equipment assigned as well. PLEASE DO NOT BE LATE! We will be meeting in CFA 14 (The University Band Room is located across the street from the Wolf Den and is next to the Virginia Street Gym).
  • We start rehearsing at 9am.
  • We will take a lunch break from 12-1pm and will provide you with food and drink.
  • We will rehearse until 5pm. PLEASE know that we will STOP rehearsing at 58 and will then need to return equipment and clean the areas we were in. This will take about 30 minutes.
  • Saturday – 11:30am is the meeting time so we can unload, set-up, and do production run-throughs of our performance for eNVision's Artown Event. PLEASE DO NOT BE LATE! We will be meeting the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows William N. Pennington Facility (1300 Foster Dr., Reno, Nevada 89509)
  • 3:30pm is when our Artown Performance begins at the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows William N. Pennington Facility (1300 Foster Dr., Reno, Nevada 89509). ADMISSION IS FREE! This will be a fun time for your friends and family  =)
  • After our performance we will clean up all areas of campus and return all equipment to their rooms or trailers. Expect to be done no later than 5pm.


PARKING INFORMATION:

  • If you are parking your vehicle on campus, you will need to purchase a permit for Thursday and Friday.
  • You can purchase a two-day blue permit for $6 (3 per day) at the parking office on the corner of North Virginia and 16th st.
  • This permit will allow you to park next to the baseball stadium or the yellow dorm parking garage off of Sierra St.
  • Saturday there is no charge for parking.
